News from our Nov. 2015 meeting

There wasn’t a quorum at Tuesday, Nov. 10 RC club meeting, but there are a couple of items of business that are timely:

1.       I’m getting a burn permit from the City for Nov. 20-22 so bring your torch and burn, burn, burn those weeds that have been chopped and piled up.  This should complete field clean up for 2015 and put us in good shape going into 2016.  A big thanks to Tom Zwack for spraying and to everyone else for chopping weeds.  Looking good!
2.       Our annual Christmas party on the first Friday of December falls on December 4 Please check your social calendar and let me know if you can attend and bring a date.  At this point I plan to cook a ham and/or turkey dinner from Safeway.  The party will be at my house 585 Pinto Road at 6:00 PM.  Everyone is asked to bring a special side dish or dessert.  The gift exchange is always fun with white elephant gifts or gifts purchased for less than $10.  We get a lot of activity when those gifts get taken from your hands by the next person!  It’s a lot of fun to get everyone together.  I sure enjoy the dinner, gifts, and party.  Please email me or call 928-614-8628 to let me know if you can come to the party and if you are bringing a date.  Deadline:  Friday, November 20 so food can be ordered.

Stay warm and I’ll see you at the field!

Lake Powell RC Modelers Minutes of Meeting on September 8, 2015

Members Present: Tom Zwack, Pam Brown, Jon Ridpath, and Joe McPhail

1.       Treasurer’s Report from Tom Zwack: Current bank balance is $3897.05.  Motion by Joe, second by Jon, passed to reimburse Tom Zwack $255.25 for weed spray chemicals, reimburse Tom Zwack for toilet chemicals, and pay AMA dues early if there is a discount.
2.       Please keep Jim and Judy Kitson in your prayers.  Jim’s leg is getting better and he will be getting a high tech freeze treatment to his kidney.  We hope he is feeling better soon.
3.       Please take a few gallons of water with you to the field each time to pour into the portapotties.
4.       Pam will be responsible for weeding runway so it doesn’t have to be sprayed at great expense.
5.       Saturday, September 26 will be an airfield work day beginning when it is nice and cool at 6:30 AM.  Please bring shovels, rakes, loppers, hoes, leather gloves, and you may want to wear long sleeves.  We need to chop down the weeds again so we can get another good spray on the ground to prevent future weeds.  Tom and Pam will spray the day after.  Weeds will be put into piles so there will be as much cleared space as possible.  We should be able to torch the weed piles in another month.
6.       October 13 meeting will be at Joe McPhail’s workshop at 7 PM at 844 Spruce.  We are looking forward to seeing his new workshop.
7.       November 10 meeting at Pam’s house will include planning for the Christmas party.  All ideas are welcome.
8.       Motion by Tom, second by Jon, passed to adjourn at 8:00.

Minutes of the June 9, 2015

Present: Tom Z., Joe, Leslie, Jon, Pam

Tee shirt for National Model Aviation Day ( see page 11 of June 2015 Model Aviation magazine)

1.        Complements to Jim Kitson for grading and Art Cloutier for strategy to redirect water on runway.  It is in good shape after all the recent rains.
2.       Treasurer Report: Balance of $4077.38.  Tom Zwack was reimbursed $847.36 for sprayer and chemicals.  Jim Kitson will bring 400 gallon water tank to the field to be used in mixing chemicals.  Tom will spray two weed killers and pre-emergent this week on the areas we’ve weeded.
3.       Jon pulled weeds this morning and last week. Tom drug weeds on Saturday with Pam chopping weeds on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
4.       Tom Z. is still trying to contact the Port-a Potty people to empty ours.  The company has been very busy and shorthanded.
5.       We’ll need to restripe the runway as soon as the rain stops and while we can still see the lines.  It takes two full days for 2 to 4 people to do all the striping.  Lime is mixed with water for this so it is best done while Jim’s water tank is still at the field.
6.       August 15 is National Model Aviation Day.  Pam is ordering t-shirts for $10.  Tom Morony,  and Jim need to give Pam their sizes if they want her to order them a t-shirt.  Pam will check out the possibility of a City proclamation, field day honoring Veterans, etc. and keep members posted by email.
7.       Joe is making progress on his Hangar.  He has a base coat on the wood, trimmed out, has AC and lights on with electric.  He’ll be getting a mini fridge and putting his work benches together.
8.       The July meeting is cancelled due to so many members being out of town then.  The next meeting will be August 11 at Pam’s house at 7 PM.

9.       Adjourn at 7:50 PM.
