Meeting Minutes from November 8, 2016

Present: Bob Martin, Joe and Abby McPhail, Jon Ridpath, Pam Brown

  • 1.        City grant to cover debris at Industrial Park has moved to the next stage.  To qualify for the grant, they must take core samples to determine the depth and type of debris.  Unfortunately, the large trucks left significant ruts on the east end of the runway where they drove across the fine surface.  Repair of the runway may require more than just member with garden rakes.  Mayor Diak and City of Page will be asked for assistance in raking and rolling the field to return it to former condition.  If we get an adequate rain, we may be able to use our vehicles to roll the runway back into shape.

  •
Lake Powell RC Modelers will have their annual Christmas Party on Friday, December 2, at 6 PM at Pam’s house, 585 Pinto Road. Please bring your spouse to this event. Tom Zwack is providing the turkey and Pam will cook some of the side dishes to complete the Christmas dinner.  A white elephant gift exchange will follow the meal with a request for a $15 limit on gifts.

  •      Jon cleaned and filled the tan restroom on Friday.  Tom Zwack is still checking on disposal of the old Cry room or converting it into a storage shed.  Pam has restroom duty for December, January, February, March and April.

Lake Powell RC Modelers

3.       Judy Kitson wanted to share with the members who have rc equipment to sell that Creative Chick, next to Cancer Outreach Thrift Store, rents out shelves for a monthly fee starting at $25.  If there are people who want to sell RC items, this would be a way to display them to the general public daily and have the store transact sales on your behalf.  Member discussion focused on difficulty of selling big, fragile, specialized items.  Member were willing to consider trying this on a limited basis to see how it works.
4.       The November 8 RC Club meeting will discuss the Christmas Party, sale update, flying progress, field improvements, and include a show and tell. Please bring an rc project you are working on to share at this meeting at 6 PM at Pam’s house 585 Pinto Road.
5.       Pam reported to the members about the Jim Kitson Memorial held at the field on October with Lake Powell RC Modelers and Page Tractor Club.  LPRCModelers provided sandwiches, bottled water, tablecloths, and an airplane floral centerpiece.  Tractor Club provided stew, cornbread, and bottled water.  Jon Ridpath used his powered glider to spread Jim’s ashes across the sky above the runway.  Judy had photos of Jim and told those assembled about his life.  Members of the audience shared stories about Jim.  See photos below

Lake Powell RC Modelers Meeting Minutes June 14, 2016

Members Present: Joe, Bob, Tom Z., Pam

1.       One airplane label with AMA and FAA numbers should be placed on the plane or inside the plane in an easily accessed area.  AMA sells a pack of 10 for $3.99.
2.       Treasurer Report by Tom Zwack: Current balance is $3761.80.  Tom will check with AMA about certificate of insurance for the field for 2016.  Note: Tom checked with AMA. We are up to date on insurance and copies were mailed.  AMA will mail us another certificate of insurance for our files.
3.       Portajohn maintenance is a shared responsibility.  Members have months of the year that they will be responsible for portajohn maintenance at the airfield.  Maintenance consists of pouring five gallons of water for the two portajohns every two weeks and stir it with the poop stick.  Please make sure that toilet paper is stocked in both and you can add blue chemical whenever needed.  The poop stick is kept between the two portajohns. Pointed end goes in the poop and square end is for your hand. The toilet paper and blue chemical is kept in the tan portajohn.  The toilet paper in the tan portajohn can be changed by removing the white cap on the holder and pulling out the dowel rod.  Please remind everyone that no paper towels are  discarded in the portajohns.  They don’t dissolve and must be removed.  Yuck!

Lake Powell RC Modelers Minutes May 10, 2016

Members present: Tom Zwack, Judy Kitson, Pam Brown, Bob Martin, and Joe McPhail

1.       Motion by Tom Z, second by Bob, passed to move meeting time to 6 PM on second Tuesday of the month.
2.       Dues for 2016 were due on April 1.  Dues have been paid by Bob Martin, Pam Brown, Tom Zwack, George Watson, Tom Morony, and Joe McPhail.  Treasurer reported the balance in club checking account to be $3761.80.  Please remember that you must be a paid member to use the airfield.  Dues will increase dramatically if we have to pay the portajohn people to maintain them.  It is a significant savings if we can maintain them ourselves.
3.       Portajohn maintenance is a shared responsibility.  Each member is asked to choose 2 months of the year that they will be responsible for portajohn maintenance at the airfield.  Maintenance consists of pouring five gallons of water for the two portajohns every two weeks and stir it with the poop stick.  Please make sure that toilet paper is stocked in both and you can add blue chemical whenever needed.  The poop stick is kept between the two portajohns.  The toilet paper and blue chemical is kept in the tan portajohn.  The toilet paper in the tan portajohn can be changed by removing the white cap on the holder and pulling out the dowel rod.  Please remind everyone that no paper towels are to be discarded in the portajohns.  They don’t dissolve and must be removed.  Yuck!  Please let Pam know which two months you want to be in charge of portajohn maintenance.  Pam will take last choice of months remaining.

Lake Powell RC Modelers Minutes April 12, 2016

Members Present: Joe McPhail, Jon Ridpath, Pam Brown

1.Long time member Jim Kitson passed away recently.  His obituary from the paper was shared.  A sympathy card was signed by members present to send to Judy Kitson, Box 2440, Page, AZ 86040.
2. Treasurer Report: Tom Zwack was ill so no report was given.  Paid members at present are Bob Martin, Tom Zwack, Tom Morony, George Watson, and Pam Brown.  You can send your check for $40 to LPRCM at Box 1952, Page, AZ 86040 or drop it off to Tom Zwack or Pam Brown.  We are still looking for new members so please invite those people you think may be interested to a meeting or out to the field.
3.  Pam sent meeting announcements to the newspaper, radio station and the Chamber of Commerce.  The radio station announced the meeting on the radio and published it on their website www.lakepowelllife.com under Community Announcements.  Hopefully the other media will announce our meetings as well so she’ll keep sending them meeting announcements each month.
4.  Take off is optional but landing is mandatory!  We need to keep water in the portajohns so we are asking members to pay their “landing fee” by bringing water to the field for the porta johns each time you fly.  Please bring as much water as you can safely lift to pour in.  Jon suggested using a cordless drill to turn an inline pump to get water where you want it from large containers.  We will ask the treasurer to research the cost of more regular service of the portajohns from the local service providers.  We need more rain before we can roll the runway.  Hopefully we won’t have to wait for the monsoons! There seems to have been enough rain to encourage weeds to start growing and we will need to stay ahead of the weeds.
5.  Let’s get out there and fly as often as possible.  It will be soon enough that the heat will be a factor in our flying!

8.       Treasurer’s Report: Tom Zwack reported the current bank balance at $3601.80.  We have enough weed spray on hand for the near future.

Present: Tom Zwack, Joe McPhail, Pam Brown   Work Day Saturday Feb. 27 at 8 AM at Airfield

3.       Treasurer Report: Tom Zwack reports a balance of $3641.80.
4.       Weeds are currently under control at field.  Tom Z. has two 50 gallon drums to use for water to mix spray.  We need two spigots to get water from barrel to a garden hose.  We need to spray sterilizer before weeds come up.
5.       Runway needs to be rolled with vehicle tires to compact the surface.
6.       Striping of the runway can take place after it is rolled.
7.       The perimeter fence needs to be realigned and straightened.
8.       The Cry Room may be best used for storage since it is hard to keep liquid.
9.       Swing gate needs to be reinforced with barb wire.
10.   Spring Swap Meet at field will be a good opportunity to clean out and organize your workshop as well as outfit new members.  Label a cardboard box now and you can put items in as you come across them.  This should create a lot of interest.
11.   Meeting announcement will be sent to the paper and radio station before each meeting.  Pam will also work on press releases and articles that can be published locally.

12.   March meeting on Tuesday the 8th will include elections for officers.  Dues for this year $40 are payable at the meeting and are good April 1 to March 31.  We are a bargain club with Chino Valley charging $200 and St. George $120.  We just need more members to share our hobby!
