Minutes of October 10, 2017 Lake Powell RC Modelers Meeting

Present: Bob Martin, Joe McPhail, Tom Zwack, Pam Brown

1.       A reminder that your name and address or AMA number should be on your plane.
2.       Joe reports that the field is alive and healthy.  85% of the weeds were taken care of by the dragging he did last weekend.  The club needs a more substantial drag made of metal sifting grate and 4x4 angle iron edges.  Joe will ask Judy Kitson and Page Steel for materials.  Watch for sinkholes where the underlying junk is collapsing. Thanks to Joe for his work on the field!
3.       Workday Saturday, October 28 at 10:00 AM.  We will be working on weeds in the pit area.  Please bring flamethrowers and shovels.  The tan potty needs to be cleaned, chemical and  6 gallons of water.  There is some fence repair to do.  The runway is still solid and in good shape. There is some water damage needing repair on the NE side.  Bring vice grips to help adjust belt placement. Not a lot of work, but some attention is required before we go into winter.  See you there!
4.       Treasurer Report from Tom Zwack: Balance $3921.80.  Tom has receipts for Jon and George.  Tom will purchase chemicals for potty.
5.       Fly! Fly! Fly!  Joe reported that the Kanab Fly in last weekend had a good showing.  Tom has been given a 54” Pitts biplane with new transmitter/receiver and 120 four-stroke engine from Leroy Wicklund.

Lake Powell RC Modelers Meeting Minutes February 14, 2017

Members Present:  Bob Martin, Tom Zwack, Jon Ridpath, Pam Brown

11.        Treasurer Report – Account balance is $3681.80 after paying $120 to AMA for club membership.  $40 club dues for the 2017-2018 year can be paid at the March meeting on March 14.   If you can’t make it to that meeting, you can put a check for $40 in the mail to LPRCModelers at POBox 1952, Page, AZ 86040.  Please put your AMA number on your check for reference.  For example, Bob’s AMA number is 63904.
22.       Thanks to Judy Kitson and the local Tractor Club, we now have three sets of bleachers at the field.  Hopefully that will handle the crowds that come to see us fly!  We are happy to help out the Tractor Club.
33.       Bob has purchased a drone.  Tom will contact AMA to add a drone category to our airfield listing with AMA.  As a courtesy, drone pilots are asked to wait until all fixed wing aircraft are on the ground before they fly.
44.       Weeds have been under control from the magic recipe Tom Zwack developed.  Tom and Pam are planning to do a little more weed spraying this spring to keep ahead of the weeds.  Tom has enough chemicals.  We will use the barrels Tom got for water to use in the mixing of the chemicals.
55.       The end of April or early May we will schedule a work day at the field depending on weather and field conditions.
66.       We are starting a maintenance item list to address on work day.  We may be able to get some used pond liner from NGS.  If we do, this would be a great time to pull up the belting, fill the low spot in the pits with sand, cover with the pond liner, and anchor down the belting along the edge to prevent water pooling and wind erosion.  We’ll need to make rebar stakes with large washers to anchor the belting.  Maybe the tractor club could help us put sand in the low spot with their tractors.
77.       We have no more information on the current state of the City’s grant application to cover the junk coming up from the old city dump.

   Hello Pilots,

I am sending you this reminder about our Remote Possibilities President's Day Fly-In scheduled for Feb. 24th & 25th in St. George, Utah.
We are very excited to see familiar faces, and meet new friends.

Lake Powell RC Modelers Minutes, January 10, 2017

Members Present:  Pam Brown, Tom Zwack, Jon Ridpath

1.       Treasurer’s Report: Balance $3801.80
2.       Schedule for Meetings:  Election of officers at the March Meeting.  Membership dues of $40 are for April 1 to March 31.  Let’s see how many new members we can recruit.  Please invite someone that you would like to have join our club.
3.       Tom Zwack will contact Bill Diak about progress of grant for field improvements.

4.       Runway needs raked to fill in washouts and cover ruts.  A steel garden rake with sturdy tines will probably be best tool for the job.  If you can take a few minutes this week, please rake what you can of the runway.  If weather permits, members can meet at the field on Friday morning between nine and ten to rake and smooth the runway as much as possible before the predicted rains for Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.  Temperatures are predicted for the high forties.  Frozen ground is pretty hard to rake so these temperatures will help us.  If we can get the runway as smoothly raked as possible, we will be prepared to roll the field when there is sufficient moisture.
